Oban the Barbarian REDUX (SLA 10. & 11. sept. 2010)

Post by Jaked_One » Thu 09 Sep 2010, 8:58:09

Being men of loyalty, men of that rare quality, they made a mistake... They walked into the Johanna Mass Grave of Kalderon and infiltrated the old DepTrans train yard. Here they fought of the Nomad from the ancient nuclear powered train carriage, that was the very reason Thresher had rained doom upon the forsaken sector of Kalderon... But they never got out... Sucked into the Egg, they found themselves in a Post History Transhuman Eden, embroiled in an ancient war between the Empire of the Orphidian Throne and the Eastern Barbarian Tribes... And soon became prisoners of war...

... Now... come closer to the campfire, gather your furs, bring your wineskin, forget the war for a moment... and let me tell you the tale of Oban the Barbarian and His Merry Men...

It all started in the slave-quarter of the Guided Tribe's war camp... With an invitation...

Doom is drunk, solo-debating one of his many favorite subjects. Iggy is driving in the rain, desperately trying not to pay attention. The light from the instruments casting his fine features in a ghoulish green glow. Some where in the back of the smoothly humming Augustus, covered in the rythmically shifting shadows of the sporadic streetlights, Doom drones on:

"...and it is utterly false. DepStratRes knows nothing about how the brain works. It's design is not encoded in the genome: what's in the genome is a collection of molecular tools wrapped up in bits of conditional logic, the regulatory part of the genome, that makes cells responsive to interactions with a complex environment. The brain unfolds during development, by means of essential cell:cell interactions, of which we understand only a tiny fraction. The end result is a brain that is much, much more than simply the sum of the nucleotides that encode a few thousand proteins. They has to simulate all of development from a codebase in order to generate a brain simulator, and they isn't even aware of the magnitude of that problem.

Shitheads cannot derive the brain from the protein sequences underlying it; the sequences are insufficient, as well, because the nature of their expression is dependent on the environment and the history of a few hundred billion cells, each plugging along interdependently. We haven't even solved the sequence-to-protein-folding problem, which is an essential first step to executing Kurzweil's clueless algorithm. And we have absolutely no way to calculate in principle all the possible interactions and functions of a single protein with the tens of thousands of other proteins in the cell!"

-BURP!-

"Here, they expect the DNA to provide the fundamental rules. That isn't the case. It's complex chemistry, with all the strange effects and interactions complex chemistry provides. This includes potential quantum effects, such as quantum tunneling in photosynthesis... Get it?!?

To simplify it so even a I Luv Guns guy like you can get it... They have everything completely wrong. The genome is not the program; it's the data. The program is the ontogeny of the organism, which is an emergent property of interactions between the regulatory components of the genome and the environment, which uses that data to build species-specific properties of the organism. they don't even comprehend the nature of the problem..."

Doom laughs, Iggy controls the urge to the stop the car and run into the night. That laughter doesn't belong to a sane creature.

"Well, on to the problem at hand", Doom exclaims... "Lets go fix that Yusuf B-team guy. I'dont like him."

Og Brother Tee: husk dit Banks +1 XP. :D

You walked among the smashed machines,
and looked trough undrugged eyes
for engines of another war,
and an attrition of the soul and the device.
With craft and plane and ship,
and gun and drone and Field you played, and
wrote an allegory of your regress
in other people's tears and blood;...

Ingen klager over kagen. INGEN!

Umm kage

Jeg har en ide til hvad kokkens overraskelse skal være. Jeg kan i hvert fald godt lide det.
